Perhaps my most treasured video game genre ever is the platformer, since it has the strength to combine so many of the things I love together. Plus, its most defining feature is how it's both challenging and colorful, and gives the lie to the notion that video games need to be depressive. The sheer joy of movement, puzzle solving and abilities that bolster your movement makes 2d platformers a joyous genre to behold.
